Dr. Aarti Arya is a renowned Principal Scientist at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), Dehradun, where she leads the Adsorption & Membrane Separation Laboratory within the Separation Process Division. With a career spanning over 15 years at CSIR-IIP, Dr. Arya has made significant contributions to the fields of carbon capture technology, materials for adsorption and catalysis, and separation science and technology.

Dr. Arya holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, which she completed in 2009. Since then, she has ascended through various scientific roles at CSIR-IIP, starting as a Junior Scientist in 2009, and progressively advancing to her current position as Principal Scientist since 2020.

Her research primarily focuses on developing novel adsorbent materials for gas separations, energy storage, and catalysis for clean energy production. Dr. Arya has spearheaded the development of advanced adsorption processes for applications such as medical-grade oxygen production, CO2 separation from flue gas, biogas purification, and methane storage. Notably, she has led the creation of the Pressure Vacuum Swing Adsorption (PVSA) technology for producing medical-grade oxygen, as well as processes for upgrading raw biogas to pipeline-quality biomethane and for adsorptive desulfurization of diesel.

Dr. Arya's prolific research output includes more than 20 publications in prestigious international journals. Her notable works feature studies on the separation of CO2, CH4, and N2 gases using zeolite-based materials, the fabrication of biochar-incorporated membranes for CO2 separation, and the shaping of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for various gas separations. These publications underscore her expertise and innovation in the field of adsorption and membrane technologies.

Beyond her research, Dr. Arya has also contributed to the development of patented technologies, including adsorbents derived from bamboo for high-pressure methane storage and methods for purifying raw biogas to biomethane. Her work has garnered multiple patents, highlighting her role in advancing practical solutions for industrial applications.

In addition to her scientific accomplishments, Dr. Arya is deeply committed to science outreach and education. As the JIGYASA Coordinator at CSIR-IIP Dehradun, she has organized numerous activities aimed at inspiring and educating students about the latest advancements in science and technology. Through lab visits, scientific lectures, demonstrations, and residential programs, Dr. Arya has engaged approximately 40,000 students and 400 teachers, fostering a new generation of scientific talent.
