Literature review

Literature review: Uses of literature review; Source of information; Organization of information on index cards.

A literature review is a summary of previously published works on a particular subject. The phrase can apply to either a whole scientific paper or a portion of a book or journal article. In any case, the purpose of a literature review is to give the researcher/author and the audience with an overview of the current information on the issue at hand. A competent literature evaluation can guarantee that an appropriate research question, theoretical framework, and/or research approach have been selected. A literature review precisely situates the current study within the relevant body of literature and provides context for the reader. In such cases, the review typically comes before the approach and outcomes sections.

Producing a literature review is a common requirement for graduate and post-graduate students, such as in the preparation of a thesis, dissertation, or journal article. Literature evaluations are also frequently included in research proposals and prospectuses (the document that is approved before a student formally begins a dissertation or thesis).
